Local MP
visits High Arcal to answer questions from French
students
Dudley North
MP Ian Austin answered questions this Friday in French as High
Arcals top language students grill him. The visit was
organised by Modern Languages teacher Ruth Turner and is aimed at
promoting modern languages at the school.
Austin faced
questions from over 100 local students on a range of subjects from
what growing up in Dudley was like 30 years ago, how he has used
the languages he learnt at school and his thoughts on issues
affecting young people in the area.
Mrs Turner
and the modern languages staff at High Arcal hope that the event
will inspire their pupils and give the subject a boost with the
pupils.

MP said:
“Since
becoming an MP my top priority has been to increase the amount and
quality of education and training in Dudley. It is vital that
we do everything we can to get young people interested in learning
and the subjects that can help them get on life.”
“Modern
languages are important for towns like ours, we need youngsters
leaving school with the tools needed to attract big business to our
area.”
“I am
looking forward to answering the students questions and listening
to them on the issues that they care strongly about and that are
affecting them.”
Modern
languages teacher Ruth Turner said:
“We are very
pleased Ian Austin MP is coming to the school to answer the
students questions face-to-face. Having a high profile guest
will really help to inspire the pupils, help raise their
aspirations and show them the real life relevance of modern
languages.”
