AUSTIN DEMANDS ANSWERS AFTER CONFUSING ACCOUNTS PROVIDED BY AIDAN BURLEY

Dudley North MP Ian Austin today demanded Government ministers clear up the confusion surrounding Aidan Burley’s participation in a dinner at which his friends chanted “Hitler, Hitler Hitler” and toasted the Third Reich.

Austin – who is campaigning in Burley’s Cannock Chase seat today – has written to Burley’s boss, Transport Secretary Justine Greening, after Burley admitted to the Jewish Chronicle that he neither left nor put a stop to his friends’ disgraceful behaviour.

Austin is asking Ms Greening to clear up the confusion because she told him that Burley had assured her that he left the dinner when he realised what was happening.

A copy of Austin's letter is below.

The Rt. Hon Justine Greening MP

Secretary of State for Transport

Great Minister House

76 Marsham Street

London

SW1P 4DR

December 15 2011

Dear Justine,

I would be grateful if you could clear up the confused and conflicting explanations that seem to have been given to account for your PPS's actions at the now infamous "Nazi-stag Party" at which he was present recently.

There is widespread public concern at Mr Burley's presence whilst his friends

chanted "Hitler, Hitler, Hitler" and toasted the Third Reich.

He has told today's Jewish Chronicle: "l wish ! had left as soon as I had realised what was happening ... I had a choice, and I made the wrong choice NOT to !eave."

This is the opposite of the explanation you gave me, which was that he had left when this disgraceful behaviour occurred.

You will also be aware that such behaviour is likely to be illegal in France where it took place. Given that it looks as though Mr Burley was a witness to illegal behaviour and did nothing to stop it, I would be very grateful if you could provide an explanation for these varying accounts.

lnstead of brushing this outrageous behaviour under the carpet and hoping the

scandal dies down, the Conservative Party should be investigating it properly and Mr Burley should be sacked.

Yours ever,

lan Austin

MP for Dudley North
