Austin welcomes extra action to tackle repossessions in Dudley

Dudley North MP Ian Austin has today welcomed extra government to help struggling homeowners get a grip on their finances and avoid any potential repossession.

The extra help will come in the form of a new advertising campaign and public event in Dudley that will let people know of the full range of government help that is available to them.  Over 330,000 households in Britain have had help and advice on their mortgages over the past year and as a result repossessions are currently running at nearly half the rate of previous recessions.

With pressure on local families likely to remain high throughout 2010, the government is working with the Citizens Advice Bureau to run a help event in Dudley.

Ian Austin MP said:

“The government has taken action to give real help to local families and as a result repossessions are half what they were during the recessions in the 80’s and 90’s.  However, I know that things are still tough for hard working local families and that is why I want anyone who is worried about their finances to go to www.direct.gov.uk/mortgagehelp to find out what help is available to them.”

“Unlike the recessions of the 80’s and 90’s local people have not been left to cope on their own, we now have a government that is on the side of local hard working people and is taking the action needed to help them through this tough time.”
