Austin backs Heroes Return campaign

Dudley MP Ian Austin is encouraging local veterans to mark the Normandy Landings.

Dudley MP Ian Austin has written to local veterans and the British Legion encouraging them to take advantage of the Heroes Return campaign.

With 2014 marking the 70th anniversary of the Normandy Landings, many veterans will be making the trip to Northern France, supported by Big Lottery Fund grants.

Up to £8,140 of funding is available towards travel and accommodation to enable Second World War veterans, their partners and carers to make trips to places across the world where they served, or to make a commemorative visit inside the UK.

Austin is keen to ensure Dudley veterans have the opportunity to return to the scene of their bravery and service.

Ian Austin said:

“We owe an enormous debt of gratitude to those who risked everything for our freedom. This is a fantastic scheme that has already helped more than 57,000 veterans to make trips to Europe, the Middle East, the Far East and elsewhere.

“I’ve written to local veterans and the British Legion to ensure they are aware of the opportunity. Since the money is available, I want to make sure that everyone who wants to make the trip is able to do so.”
