Austin backs new law to open up tax havens

Dudley MP Ian Austin is backing a new law to stop people stashing their money in tax havens.

Austin is joining with MPs from all parties to force the Government to publish figures on who owns what in the Crown Dependencies and Overseas Territories.

The Government is currently planning to collect this information but share it only with HMRC on a confidential basis.

Austin has previously backed the Multinational Enterprises (Financial Transparency) Bill, which would force multinational companies to come clean on tax.

Ian Austin said:

“People in Dudley want big businesses to invest in Britain, but they want them to pay their fair share or tax too.

“While millions of families and the vast majority of British firms pay their fair share, it's not right that some firms don't.

“That’s why I’m backing this proposal to make sure that big companies and rich individuals can’t get away with making deals in private so that they can pick and choose the tax they pay.”
