Austin backs new tool to catch criminals

Dudley MP Ian Austin has given his backing to a new police tool to help identify suspected criminals.

Austin – a member of the House of Commons’ influential Home Affairs Select Committee –will visit Dudley Police Station this Friday to see the new Facewatch website in action. Local people can enter their postcode into the site to identify images of police suspects in their area.

Local businesses can also use the tool to report crimes and hand CCTV footage directly to the police.

Austin said he would encourage the use of similar technology across the country as a member of the Home Affairs Select Committee.

Ian Austin MP said:

“Police rely on local people to help identify suspects, and this new tool makes it easier than ever for members of the public to help out.

“I want to see this sort of technology used more and more to help catch and deter criminals.”
