Austin calls for more investment in for elderly care

Dudley MP Ian Austin is calling for more spending for social care for the elderly.

Austin is supporting Independent Age’s campaign for the Government to invest in a personal care guarantee to pay for the care older people need.

More than a million older people are living without the support they need for activities like getting washed or getting out of bed and funding pressures are hitting the availability of support and increasing the cost of care.

Ian Austin said:

“Free personal care for older people has been in place in Scotland since 2002 and I want to see the same benefits available for older people in England.

“That’s why I’m urging the Government to support personal care which is better value for the tax payer and would reduce people’s care costs.”
