Austin calls on government to cut petrol prices

Dudley MP Ian Austin has called on the government to cut fuel duty in the Autumn Statement.

Official figures show that diesel prices in Britain are the highest in Europe, with petrol prices third highest.

Austin is backing local campaigners from FairFuelUK who are calling for a 3p cut in fuel duty to make families better off and stimulate the economy, and has written to the Chancellor George Osborne urging him to take action.

Last year Austin was thanked by TV motoring expert Quentin Wilson, the lead campaigner of FairFuelUK, for his support in helping press the Government to freeze fuel duty.

Ian Austin MP said:

“Like most people in Dudley I have noticed the steep increase in cost when filling up my car. Going to the pump has become very expensive for millions of families across the country.”

“The Government should help hard working families and boost the economy at the same time by cutting fuel duty in the Autumn Statement.”
