Austin calls on local residents to get home heat help

Dudley MP Ian Austin has called on local residents to take advantage of energy schemes to help heat their homes this winter.

Dudley MP Ian Austin has called on local residents to take advantage of energy schemes to help heat their homes this winter.

New research from Home Heat Helpline shows that 118,000 households in the Black Country are eligible for assistance from their energy supplier with heating their homes.

In total 26 per cent of homes in the Black Country are entitled to relief from energy companies this year. Households that qualify include low income pensioners, disadvantaged families with children or those with a disability, or any household that lives in one of the most deprived areas in the country.

Ian Austin MP said:

“Annual energy bills have gone up by £300 a year since 2010, and I know this has made it harder for many people in the Black Country to make ends meet and keep their homes warm.

“I want the government to introduce an energy price freeze to help working families with their bills, but they’re not taking action.

“The best way for people in the Black Country to prepare right now is to call the Home Heat Helpline on 0800 33 66 99 to see if they’re eligible for assistance.”
