Austin celebrates boxing club extension

Dudley North MP Ian Austin has said he is delighted with progress on an extension to the Priory Boxing Club.

Austin joined businessman Roy Richardson who has supported the club’s drive to build a new and bigger gym to meet club coaches Paul and Steve Gough on Friday.

The club has dozens of youngsters on its waiting list. It’s been trying to expand for years but lacked the funds to do the work. Austin helped the club win £50,000 from Sport England.

The extension will triple the gym’s size and is expected to be complete soon.

Ian Austin said:

“Paul Gough and his team do brilliant work with local youngsters, keeping them fit and off the streets, teaching them that with discipline, hard-work and dedication, the sky is the limit.

“Back in 2005 I promised the people of the Priory I would do all I could to help the boxing club. I’ve worked hard to keep that promise and I’m delighted that so much progress has been made.

“It will be a fantastic new facility and we should all thank Paul Gough and his team, Roy Richardson and everyone else who has helped make it happen.”
