Austin celebrates Mount Pleasant School victory

Dudley MP Ian Austin is celebrating a breakthrough in the campaign to preserve the Mount Pleasant School in Coseley.

Brian Guest and Beatrice Boyling worked with other members of local campaign group the Friends of Mount Pleasant School fought to ensure that the old school would not be knocked down after Dudley’s archives were moved from the building to a new site on Tipton Road.

Austin has lobbied the council to keep the building and the council has now announced plans that will see the school restored with the interiors being converted into apartments.

Ian Austin said:

“Brian Guest, Beatrice Boyling, Councillor Melvyn Mottram and The Friends of Mount Pleasant School have done a brilliant job in campaigning for this important local landmark.

“I’m really pleased I was able to help and it just goes to show what local campaigners can achieve when we all work together.”
