Austin demands quick action over dangerous bend

Dudley MP Ian Austin has demanded answers from the Council over the latest accident on Gornal’s dangerous bend.

This morning a woman was taken to hospital with what is reported to be serious leg injuries after being struck by a car on Temple Street, Upper Gornal.

Austin, local councillors and residents have been leading a campaign on improved road safety after concerns were raised by residents about accidents and near misses on the bend where Church Street and Temple Street meet in Upper Gornal.

A petition launched by Austin and local Labour Councillors Dave Branwood and Stuart Turner attracted over 500 signatures in a matter of weeks.

Dudley Council had announced a review of speed reduction and will consider introducing new signs, road markings and changes to kerb lines but this has not yet been started.

Ian Austin said:

“I was appalled to hear of this latest terrible accident which has sadly left a woman in hospital.

“I have been leading a campaign to improve the safety on the road and this shows how important it is to get something done quickly.

“I have contacted the Council this morning demanding an urgent update on the improvements that were planned and whether there is anything they can do now to improve safety on the bend.”
