Austin goes back to school to celebrate teacher's retirement

Dudley MP Ian Austin has visited his old school to celebrate his first teacher’s retirement.

Teacher Sue Hanning retires at the end of this school term after 43 years of service first at St Edmund’s School and then at St Edmund’s and St John’s.

Her retirement assembly will be attended by a number of ex-pupils including Austin who was taught by Ms Hanning back in the seventies.

The MP will give a short speech paying tribute to Ms Hanning’s work and encouraging current pupils to set high ambitions.

Ian Austin said:

“I’m delighted to be able to come back to my old school and pay tribute to Sue’s contribution to generations of children in Dudley.

“I think we should do much more to praise the work of brilliant teachers like Sue who do their best for every child they teach.”
