Austin meets council to press for tough action over traveller camps

Dudley North MP Ian Austin is meeting Dudley Council bosses and local police to press for tough and swift action to tackle illegal traveller sites in his constituency.

The MP arranged the meeting after several public parks in his constituency were used by travellers during the summer. The meeting takes place on Friday January 13th.

He wants assurances that the police and council are doing all they can to prevent travellers using parks and community facilities in Dudley and move them on as quickly as possible if they do set up camp in the area.

Ian Austin said:

“Several parks and community facilities in residential areas in Dudley were used by travellers last summer.

“It’s my job to stand up for people in Dudley and I don’t see why they should be unable to use parks and their community facilities be spoilt so I’m meeting the council and police.

“I want assurances that they will do everything possible to prevent these camps in future and move them on as quickly as possible if they do appear. I want them to use all the powers they have to prevent these problems from occurring again.”
