Austin meets surgeon changing thousands of lives

Dudley North MP Ian Austin is meeting with a Dudley surgeon performing life changing work for people who have lost their limbs.

Dr Viquar Qurashi from Russells Hall Hospital has developed a technique to recycle old prosthetic limbs and drainpipes to make new limbs for thousands of people in countries such as Syria and Pakistan, for a fraction of the price.

Ian Austin will be talking to Doctor Qurashi, a trauma and orthopaedic surgeon, on Thursday 24th April about his work which has seen over 3,000 people’s lives transformed. Each limb costs just £30, compared with £1,200 for the type given to NHS patients.

Ian Austin said:

“It’s amazing that these life changing limbs has been developed by Dr Qurashi here in Dudley. Because of his work, thousands of people have had their lives improved and can walk again.

“I am looking forward to meeting with Dr Qurashi today to discuss his work home and abroad, and talk about his great ideas to improve services in Dudley at Russells Hall Hospital.”
