Austin opens new facilities at Dormston School

Dudley North MP Ian Austin will be opening new art studio and sports courts at Dormston School in Sedgley today.

The opening takes place at 11.00am at the school in Mill Bank.

In addition to opening the new facilities, Austin will congratulate the school’s ne head teacher, his colleagues and the pupils on the improvements they are making to exam results.

Two years ago, just 40% of pupils got five A-C’s at GCSE and 35% at GCSE including English and Maths.

This year 58% got five A-C’s at GCSE and 53% at GCSE including English and Maths.

Ian Austin said:

“I want to congratulate the school on these brilliant new facilities because investing in education is the best investment any of us can make for the future, but I also want to congratulate Mr Stitchman, his colleagues and the pupils on this year’s results.

“I think we have to make education our number one priority – not just so young people can go on to college or university or get a good apprenticeship, but because the only way we’ll attract the new investment and jobs on which the area’s prosperity depends is by having the skills new industries need.”
