Austin opens new facilities at Sledmere School

Dudley North MP Ian Austin will be cutting the ribbon on new facilities at Sledmere Primary School this Friday.

Austin will be joined by the Mayor and Mayoress, Councillor Steve Waltho and Mrs Jayne Waltho for the opening at 1:30pm on Friday 16th October at Sledmere School, The School Drive, DY2 8EH.

Dudley Council provided extra funding for the expansion of Sledmere Primary, Kates Hill Primary and Gig Mill Primary in Stourbridge to meet growing demand from local families.

The new buildings mean that Sledmere Primary will be able to accommodate an extra 30 children in each year group by 2019.

Austin has welcomed the expansion, saying that popular local schools should receive extra support to meet demand from local parents.

Ian Austin said:

“I would like to congratulate the school, its staff and Dudley Council for making this investment in new school buildings so more local parents can send their children to their first choice of school.

“I think improving education and skills and making sure more young people get a first class education has to be our number one priority because it’s the only way we’ll attract new industries and new jobs on which our prosperity will depend.”
