Austin opens new skills centre at Holly Hall

Dudley North MP Ian Austin today officially opened a new skills training centre at Holly Hall Academy.

The new state-of-the-art centre will enable pupils to learn construction trades, hair-dressing and beauty and other skills.

It is being run by Holly Hall in partnership with training provider EDS and has been developed by Head Teacher Rob Hatch who joined the school last year.

Ian Austin said:

“We need to make improving education and boosting skills our number one priority so I was delighted to see the new centre and I want to congratulate Mr Hatch and his colleagues, the school’s governors, EDS and everyone else who has worked so hard to developing this initiative.

“With long-term youth unemployment in the Black Country twice the national average, this is exactly what we need to give local young people the skills they’ll need to get jobs in the future.

“Teaching young people these skills will also teach them that they can succeed in other studies too and help them gain the confidence they need to achieve much more in the future.”
