Austin says Council plans put vulnerable young people at risk

Dudley North MP Ian Austin is opposing Dudley Council's plans to bring in voluntary organisations to run local youth clubs for vulnerable and disabled youngsters.

Staff at Lower Gornal Youth Centre, The Source Youth Centre in Wordsley and Stourbridge Youth Centre have all been told they are at risk of redundancy.

Youth workers who currently run the sessions are now at risk of losing their jobs. Many have worked for years with disabled youngsters, running sessions to help disabled young people socialise and learn new skills.

Ian Austin said:

“I am very concerned about the effect these changes could have on disabled young people..

“The youth workers do a great job, they provide a valuable service to many youngsters and it’s unacceptable that Dudley Council are putting this at risk.

“I’ll be working with parents, young people and campaigners to do all I can to get the council to think again.
