Government support cut from Communication Trust
Dudley North MP Ian Austin has slammed the decision by the Department of Education to cut funding for children and young people who have speech, language and communication difficulty.
The contract for Speech Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) at the Communication Trust is set to be cut this year despite Government support for over a decade.
SLCN is one of the most common childhood disabilities affecting an estimated of 10% of kids, many of whom have persistent and ongoing needs.
Ian Austin said:
“I’ve always said we need to make education and skills our number one priority to give youngsters a first class start in life.
“This decision by the Government could affect some of the most vulnerable kids in the Black Country. Youngsters with SCLN needs can find it difficult at school already so this is going to be much worse.
“I’ve backed calls for the Government to review this decision and continue providing support to the Communication Trust”
