Austin supports new project to boost local scout groups

Dudley North MP Ian Austin is backing a new project to get more local children involved with scouting groups.

The project will highlight how local children can benefit from joining the Scouts including learning new skills and supporting the local community.

Over half a million Scouts are active across Britain, but the new project aims to increase membership in some of the country’s most deprived areas.

Austin is a former member of the 20th Dudley Cub Scouts based at Himley Road in Dudley, and will be attending the launch of the new project in Parliament on Wednesday 29 October.

Ian Austin said:

“I’m delighted to join the launch event for this exciting new project which aims to change the lives of young people here in Dudley.

“I was a Cub Scout myself in Dudley, and I know from experience that the Scouts help young people to develop much needed life skills, such as confidence and responsibility as well as working together as part of a team.

“I hope that more local people can get involved and help make a difference in their community.”
