Dudley MP Ian Austin is encouraging local people to apply for a work placements and training in Parliament.
The MP is taking part in this year’s Speaker’s Parliamentary Placement Scheme, which gives those from disadvantaged backgrounds the opportunity to work for nine months alongside MPs in Parliament. Mr Austin will be one of the MP’s who will open their office to one of the placements.
The scheme offers a London Living Wage to ten successful applicants, who otherwise might not be able to afford to take work experience in Westminster.
The scheme aims to make access to Parliament more representative of the UK population as a whole and previously successful applicants include single parents and part-time carers.
Open to people of all ages, backgrounds and locations, the application window is now open and ends at midday on Friday 21st August.

Ian Austin said:
“We need to make education and skills our number one priority in Dudley because it’s the only way that we will attract new investment and jobs to the area.
“That’s why I have always done everything I can to offer work experience and career advice to local people.
“I am really pleased that people from Dudley have the opportunity to apply for the Speaker’s Scheme and would encourage anyone who is interested to do so.
“It will help open Parliament up to a wider range of the people it represents which I think is a really important issue.”
