Dudley MP Ian Austin will be guest speaker at Age UK Dudley’s annual meeting on Monday.
Austin will speak at Brierley Hill Methodist Church, 24 Bank Street, Brierley Hill DY5 3DA at 2pm on Monday 24th October.
The MP has supported Age UK’s work in the local area, organising for groups to visit Parliament and backing the organisation’s campaigns.
Age UK offers a range of services to support older people across the borough from running day centres to providing advice services and foot care.
Ian Austin said:
“Age UK do brilliant work for older people across the borough, not just by offering vital services such as day centres but by working to combat loneliness and isolation too.
“It’s a real privilege to be invited to speak at Age UK’s annual meeting in Dudley and I’m looking forward to hearing what more I can do to help support their work, but it’s terrible that government cutbacks have hit vital local services run by organisations like Age UK so hard.
“We have an aging population so this work is set to become more and more important, so it’s heart-breaking to see people relying on organisations like Age UK are paying the price for a financial crisis they did nothing to cause.
“I’ll be listening to what staff and supporters of Age UK can tell me about the impact of the cutbacks and I’ll be calling on the government to step in to help these vital local services.”
