Dudley North MP Ian Austin is visiting Dudley College's new centre for advanced manufacturing and engineering technology.
Austin will be visiting Dudley College at 3pm on Thursday 9th October. He and college principal Lowell Williams will be visiting Dudley Advance, the new manufacturing training centre being built at Priory Road.
Dudley Advance is being developed with local manufacturing businesses and Aston University to bring first-class, high-tech engineering training facilities to the town. It will encourage local youngsters to pursue careers in engineering and manufacturing and help them acquire the skills they need.
Ian Austin said:
“I think the biggest question we face is how we help local businesses grow and bring new, well-paid and secure jobs to the Black Country to replace the ones we’ve lost.
“Long-term youth unemployment in the Black Country is twice the national average and we need to make education our number one priority because the only way we’ll attract the new investment and jobs on which the area’s prosperity depends is by having the skills new industries need.
“Under Lowell Williams Dudley College has transformed our town centre and this brilliant new technology and manufacturing centre will soon be open, helping local businesses grow, educating young people and helping adults get new jobs too."
