Today I visited Age UK’s new Older People’s Community Hub to see what they’ve been doing to ensure vital help is given to older people in Sedgley.
I met Age UK’s Deputy Chief Executive Mark Thomas, who showed me around the new hub on Ettymore Road.
Lots of people contacted me when funding cuts forced Age UK to reduce the services they could offer in the area.
I visited the centre when this was announced and contacted the Council to try and get the funding reinstated. Unfortunately services had to be reduced but hard work from Age UK will keep a presence in the area.
The new Older People's Community Hub will provide a meeting point for local people to me come together and chat. There will also be a café, charity sales, foot care sessions, telephone befriending and information on a number of other services.
I think it’s crucial we look after the older generation and I will always support projects like these which provide important services in the community and I look forward to the opening in September.
