Come shopping on Saturday says Austin

Dudley MP Ian Austin has called on Dudley residents to come shopping with him this Saturday.

Austin is backing Dudley market traders who are making a stand by remaining open when a far right demonstration takes place in the town centre this weekend.

The MP says that he will be shopping on the market and around the town centre this Saturday as usual, and he is encouraging Dudley shoppers to join him in a show of support for the town’s hard-pressed traders.

Market traders say that they have lost out on day’s takings by closing for previous demonstrations despite few demonstrators turning up. This time they say they will open for trade as usual.

Dudley Council is offering free parking this Saturday to encourage shoppers to visit and support town centre traders.

Ian Austin said:

“I wish these demonstrations weren’t taking place, but I’m very pleased to hear Dudley Market will be open this weekend so I’ll be shopping and meeting local people as normal, and I hope everyone else will join me.

“It is our town and we should not be prevented from going about our business by a bunch of outsiders stirring things up.”
