My meeting with the Friends of Dudley group

Great to meet Lesley Dunn, Janet Beardsmore, and Ken and Tracy McClymont to talk about improving things in Dudley.

Lesley has set up the Friends of Dudley group to campaign for improvements in the town. It would be great if as many local people as possible could sign up to support her brilliant efforts.

She’s got loads of great ideas to boost the number of visitors to Dudley, bring more investment to the town, improve trade and support local shops such as bringing back tourist information points, better signage to tell visitors about the historic town centre, help new shops open with help with rent or rates, more free parking and more activities for families with children.

We also talked about the delays in getting Cavendish House and the area around it redeveloped and the bus station improved.

I’ve promised to help her fix up meetings with councillors and senior council officers to discuss these ideas.

I also want to see Dudley Castle opened up throughout the summer with concerts, plays and other attractions bringing thousands of extra visitors to Dudley, boosting trade and changing the town's image.

The new college buildings are brilliant but I have been working hard with the college to develop plans for a new £30 million university-level technical and hi-tech manufacturing centre, which could transform the town and bring new industries and new jobs to the Black Country.

You can join the Friends of Dudley Group here.
