Dudley North MP Ian Austin has been awarded a gold certificate for youth friendly employment practices.
The certificate has been awarded by Youth Employment UK, a national campaign aiming to tackle youth unemployment in England. The certificate recognises Austin’s efforts to support young people in Dudley by visiting schools for career talks and offering work experience.
Long-term youth employment currently stands at twice the national average across the Black Country, with 3,630 young people out of work for more than six months.
Austin is encouraging other local businesses to take part in the scheme and offer extra support for young people.
Ian Austin said:
“We need to make education and skills our number one priority in Dudley because it’s the only way that we will attract new investment and jobs to the area.
“That’s why I have always done what I can to offer work experience and career advice to local young people.
“I want local employers to get involved too so we can reverse long-term youth unemployment in Dudley that is twice the national average.”
