Dudley MP Ian Austin will be helping Ellowes Hall School launch its new sailing dinghies this Friday.
Austin will be joining sailing students, Head Teacher Andy Griffiths and members of Himley Hall Sailing Club to celebrate the delivery of two new sailing dinghies at the club’s base in Himley Hall Park at 11:30am on Friday 6th March.
Ellowes Hall Sports College is one of the only schools in the Midlands to include sailing as part of its curriculum thanks to a partnership with Himley Hall Sailing Club. The partnership has seen the Club reach the top five of the Royal Yacht Association’s Club of the Year awards.
The school’s new boats will be used by students in lessons and are named ‘Aspire’ and ‘Achieve’ after the school’s motto.
Austin has praised the school for its sports curriculum, saying it has contributed to outstanding results.
Ian Austin said:
“Education and skills has to be our number one priority in Dudley, so I welcome the brilliant work of Ellowes Hall Head Andy Griffiths in raising standards.
“I’m pleased to see the school building on its partnership with Himley Hall Sailing Club to teach even more youngsters sailing.
“Sports are helping teach the school’s students that with discipline, hard work and dedication, the sky is the limit.”
