Local MP welcomes improvements at Dormston

Dudley MP Ian Austin has welcomed today’s news that Ofsted has taken Dormston School out of special measures.

Dormston School in Sedgley was placed in special measures after an inspection in July 2013.

Since then the school has appointed new Headteacher Mr Ben Stitchman who promised to get the school out of special measures within one academic year.

Results have improved and today’s Ofsted report describes ‘rapid improvements’ at the school, taking the school out of special measures

Ian Austin congratulated Mr Stitchman and his colleagues, saying:

“This is a huge step in the right direction. Mr Stitchman, his colleagues and the school governors have kept their promise to get the school out of special measures in a year and I am sure the school will continue to improve in the future.

“This improvement shows that with the right leadership schools in Dudley can do just as well as those anywhere else, which is so important because we have to make education and skills our number one priority to attract the new investment and new industries on which our prosperity will depend in the future.”
