Local NHS worker chosen to fight by-election for Labour

Local resident Shaneila Mughal has been selected as Labour’s candidate in the upcoming St Thomas’s by-election.

Shaneila was born in Dudley and lives in the ward with her husband and three children. She went to Kate’s Hill Primary School, Castle High School, Dudley College and now works for the NHS as a Specialist Biomedical Scientist.

The seat will be contested on Thursday 16th February after the resignation of a sitting Councillor. The ward currently has two Labour councillors Shaukat Ali and Steve Waltho.

Shaneila Mughal said:

“I am honoured to have been selected as the Labour Party candidate to fight the forthcoming by-election.

“If elected I will work with my colleagues Cllrs Steve Waltho & Shaukat Ali and MP Ian Austin MP to campaign for a fair deal for St Thomas’s. I want to see the regeneration of Cavendish House, which has gone undeveloped for far too long. I will also work hard to keep our streets free of litter and to stop fly tipping, which is blighting our streets.

Councillor Shaukat Ali said:

“Shaneila is local, lives in the area and understands the issues facing local residents.

“She will be a great addition to the Labour team here in St Thomas’s. We hope that people will support and vote for Shaneila so that she can take up the job of helping local people.”

Ian Austin said:

“I have campaigned with Shaneila on local issues so I know how much she cares about the area. I think she will make a great addition to the Labour team will stand up for the local area.”
