Dudley MP Ian Austin is calling on the government to include more support for children with mental health problems in new mental health legislation.
In December 2018 Prime Minister Teresa May pledged to reform mental health legislation. Austin is calling for this to guarantee that no child of deprived or his or her right to access to health care services.
He is backing a new Child Mental Health Charter which affirms that mental health and wellbeing is an indivisible part of general health. Legislation should focus on the needs of children, invest in a qualified & well trained workforce, support parents & carers and ensure policy is informed by the best available evidence.
Ian Austin said:
“Mental health should be taken as seriously as physical health, and should be properly funded.
“I am supporting the Child Mental Health Charted and I want to see protection for children included in any new legislation put forward by the Government to support children in Dudley and their parents and carers.”
