Dudley North MP Ian Austin has today spoken of his delight that his campaign to save the £5.6million regeneration of Priory North has been successful.
Austin lead the campaign to get the funding for Priory North and has since fought to make sure that the project was not effected by the wave of cuts following the Governments recent budget.
Funds have been made available for the first stage of the project to get underway this year with over a 100 new homes being built. Austin will continue to monitor the regeneration project and make sure that the funds needed to start the second stage are available as soon as possible.
Austin took his campaign to the highest level personally quizzing George Osborne during the monthly Treasury Questions session in the House of Commons and invited him to meet local people to discuss the importance of investment in Dudley and to visit the Priory Road housing development where 300 homes were at risk.
Ian Austin MP said:
"I worked really hard before the election to get £5.6 million agreed for the new homes at Priory North and I am delighted that I made the Chancellor understand that putting projects like this at risk won't just deny local people the new homes we need, but will hit companies and employees in the building trade too.”
"As a result of the campaign I ran alongside the local community and councillor’s contractors will be on site by the end of the summer providing a major boost to the local economy.”
“This is great news for our community and the local economy, but we have not finished yet. We need to make sure that funding continues and cannot rest until the whole project is finished. I will keep the pressure on both the council and the government to make sure this happens.”
