West Midlands women earn 20% less

Dudley MP Ian Austin has revealed figures showing that women in the West Midlands earn just 80p for every £1 that a man earns.

Austin revealed the figures on Equal Pay Day – the day that women across the UK effectively start working for free due to the gender pay gap.  The day falls three days earlier than last year as the pay gap has risen further.

Austin is calling on large companies to publish their average hourly pay gap to expose whether men and women are paid differently for doing the same work.

Ian Austin said:

“These shocking figures show the full extent of the gap in pay between men and women in Dudley.”

“Under the current Government, not only do women get paid less than men, but things are getting worse.”

“I think there should be transparency on how much men and women are paid for doing the same job so we can push for equal pay across the West Midlands.”
